At LAST!!!! time to do my final model! a few days before that, i went to draw out ALL the pieces of bothe the shop house...so i can paste them tgt easily..haha..cutting them was tough!!!!!! but placing them tgt was easy....had to watch for glue stains. was quite satisfied with the end product!!!! here are the pictures and the interiors of my final model!

Now, had to do a close up detail of my wall..hmm......i racked my brains the whole day, didnt know how to do it..so...my wall was made of wood so i went to buy wood materials. Instead of doing a box, i did a long wall...hmm..hope wont get scolding for it..because i really didnt know how to do it..in the end..it turned up like this

have to explain to my lecturers about it!!!!!!

The last lecture

okok...i shall now post on the last lecture..kelly told us it was the last lecture..seriously, very sad. will miss kelly, elaine and all the other lecturers. Thanks for all your help! anyways, it was a summary of what we all had learned the past year..kelly also gave us origami paper and some steps to paste together

Kelly told us to think of what our paper structure can do..and the first think came to my mind!!!! A MUSEUM!!!!!!

Mock up

SO. now is the time to start my mock up! bought 2 more mounting boards! ( told u all that wasnt the end of the mounting borards ) found out it was a very tedious process to cut out the floors and everything. It was even harder then BRICKBOY because the mounting board material is very hard...using a penknife wasnt that easy to cut oso..i had to do 2 shophouses. One for gallery space and the other for living space. I decided to cut slits in the walls, just like how i did in my moodbox.

For the concept of my shophouse, i realised my moodbox really came into use, like the roof of my house...shall tell u all more later. Anyways, i decided that there will be 2 galleries, the first and second floor whereas the 3rd floor will be edvard munch working space. Here are some pictures of my mock up:

Kelly mentioned to me that i had alot of different 'patterns' on my walls and there was no rythm to it. So i had to change it..heres the second and third floor:

For the second house, it was basically the living space, it must have a kitchen, a place for edvard munch and his guest to sleep..so, edvard munch was to slp on the second floor while his guest, on the third. The concept of the second house is almost the same as the first.

so this is my second house!! i shall post the overall pic of my first shophouse.

This was the failed one by the way. Kelly asked me to changed it.

MoodBox Part 2

Okay, talked to elaine and the moodbox was not accepted..haha..kinda expected it la..anyways,she told me to use 1 of my 3 concepts, which is LIGHTING. WHY DIDNT I THOUGHT OFF IT?? lighting is one of the most important things for a painter, being a painter myself when i was in secondary sch..so, i went home to redo my moodbox. This time, i played with both lighting and elevation. Slits were cut on the mounting board ( which is the 2ND ) to let lights in.

So it ended up something like that...i think its not bad. Also, i took into consideration that the top of the box shld get in the most lights as possible. So i cut the top of the box to be like this:

This way, light can be abosorbed as much as possible. Went back to sch to discuss with elaine. She said it was okay and i could proceed with my mock up shophouse!!!!!!!

MoodBox Part 1

Hi everyone! i know i have not been updating my design blog...busy la...SO. i shall update everything today! but in parts..so it wont be a long post. Firstly, MOODBOX.

Had to do a moodbox on my concept....quite hard..because edvard munch did not have much concepts in his paintings. I only knew he liked to paint about life and death. Printed some pictures, bought my FIRST mounting board ( its first because it wont be the last ) and started on my moodbox. it ended up like this :

The Escher Experience.

Once upon a time..there was this girl called sarah..her stepmum always made her stay at home to take care of her baby step brother....
If u want to know more, go watch the movie called Labyrinth. I think. Anyway, this movie was related to our last project. We had to built a model, 4oomm by 400 mm by 400mm drawing inspiration from my tessellation pattern, design and craft the spaces of the labyrinth within the cube, using only TRUE materials..like..wood..metal....plastic.

At the end..we also have to put a human silhouette in our model..showing the journey.

So, it was off to materials hunting, went with the usual gang to look for cheap lobangs! In the end..my materials that i chose was black and transparent acrylic sheets and wood.
From then onwards, my life in school was more in workshop then in studio..had to cut materials and all those..anyway..fast forward.

Deadline closing..model was about halfway done? one afternoon, played with valarie's lego and her model.

WHAT THE HELL IS SPIDERMAN DOING????? haha!!!!! Okay..so...i completed my model the following week..went to take pictures of the journey and painted the 16 tiles ( Both of which was part of the project).

Handed up the models..pictures tiles and everything last friday!!!! happy happy!!!!!!

All in all..really enjoyed this project..i really interacted with space..kelly told us we will be doing more on space after the holidays! looking forward to it!

TESSELLATION Part 2.

After drawing our tessellations on A1 paper, we had to select one of them and make a 3d model out of it. WOW. Cool. So, kelly gave us the briefing..

We had to use satay sticks and form a box which is 10 cm by 10 cm. Now..for the tricky part..we had to use a tessellation design, select part of it and create the tessellation in 3d!

Starting, i was abit confused..but with help frm kelly again i managed to do it. We had to do 4 models..but the 4th was for next wk..so we only had to do 3 over the weekends! For the 4th, we had to do the model using ZO cards..we also had to add stairs..ladders..etc....

Overall, i feel that this project is reaaly cool because we started to design stuff in space!!!! Hope there are more projects like this!!! Ending off with pics!

TESSELLATION.

OKAY! After ontography..we did something that was related to ontography..TESSELLATION. so...we had to draw a 10cm by 10 cm box on a butter paper, then we had to put the butter paper over our favourite ontography and trace out lines..the lines HAD to touch the sides of the boxes. After that...erm...quite complicated..dont know how to explain...but in the end, i had 16 butter papers with 16 different designs in them called, TESELLATIONS. Homework was..to trace the butter papers on to 3 A1 papers ( AGAIN!) with 3 different formulas using the 16 different designs or templates.

After we had 3 different tessellation on the A1 papers kelly told us that we had to,

1.Select a tessellation to paint it. In any colours.

2. Select another tessellation to paint it also, but in black and white.

and

3. Select the last tessellation and design it. Something like ontography.

So. we had a deadline and i completed all within the deadline. As usual, we had a pin up and our lecturers commented on them..

Tessellation for me was also a new approach in designing! I never knew how hard it was to just create many recurring patterens! As usual, i will end of with my TESSELLATIONS.

Don't really like the colours tessellation!

UPDATE!!!!! Ontography.

OK. First of all, i want to say SORRY to kelly for not updating so long..hope its not too late!!!! Anyways, i shall now talk about the important things i did for sem 1.

For the first 2 to 3 weeks..MASTER SHIFU, aka our school of design director came and taught us ONTOGRAPHY. ONTOGRAPHY. Hmm....mixed feelings..apparently, our master shifu is very good in ontography. He taught us to not think and just anyhow draw on a piece of paper. Not bad on my first try, and as usual we had tons of homework! So, for the next one wk, we did alot of ontography...close to 8 or 9? or maybe 5 or 6? see la..forgot already..haha! Anyway, at the end of wk 2, master shifu asked us to pick the best 3 and we had to pin them up for all of the lecturers to see..my fav 3 are:

Yup...these 3 are my favourites! Overall, i think that ontography is a new approach to design! Its new to me and i have enjoyed it.....haha!

Hi everyone..erm..im not much of a blogger..so..anyways..this whole week has been very exciting for me..for a start, we started drawing lessons. Drawing..erm..its okay for me..but i dun reali like shading though. Wats interesting is tat we had to do a model called brick boy!!!!! well..looks very easy to do..but its reali very frustrating and tedious to cut out the template! took me bout..3 to 4 hours to complete mine.

See. First attempt..not very gd. Well..at the end of the lesson, we were told to make ANOTHER brick boy..but this time, our brick boy has to be a character and must be double the size of the original brick boy. I thought of doing ironman..but..its taken. So i chose robocop instead..

took me about 6 hours to complete on 2 consecutive days. I tink it looks better. Anyways..today..had a showcase on BRICKBOYS. I daresay that everyone did a great job..here are some photos:

cool rite? haha. Okays..not much to talk about..this is just the first week and...not bad la.Doing brick boy reali tests our skills..02 rocks man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
